Solar Magnetic Fields: Solar Chromosphere, Solar Magnetic Fields: Solar Active Regions

The authors' results on the magnetic field structure in the chromosphere of an active region were confirmed on the basis of additional observational data. The observations of a longitudinal magnetic field were carried out in the Fe I λ525.35 nm and Hβ lines with the Crimean double magnetograph. The authors compared the observed magnetic field in the Hβ line with a potential field calculated with the potential theory and the photospheric line-of-sight data. The week fields up to 15 mT in the chromosphere have a larger inclination to the vertical line than the potential fields. For higher strengths, the observed fields are more vertical as compared with the potential one. The observed magnetic field may be regarded as a superposition of the potential field and the field generated by currents in the chromosphere. The current may be of any density but it flows along the resultant magnetic field. The equations describing the structure of this magnetic field as the force-free magnetic field are given. The structure of this magnetic field is discussed briefly.
