A stability analysis of magnetized plasma flow with loading by new cometary ions is presented, and it is shown that linear masgnetoacoustic perturbations become hydrodynamically unstable when the magnetoacoustic Mach number is reduced to 2 as a result of the deceleration of the plasma flow. It is suggested that this phenomenon plays an important role in the formation of a cometary bow shock.
