The lifetimes of the 1 Pi, 1 Delta, and 3 Sigma states in CH+ have been directly measured at high resolution using the high-frequency deflection technique. In particular, eight studied bands of the A 1Pi - X 1Sigma system yield considerably longer lifetimes than those obtained earlier. The new f-values are more in agreement with recent theoretical calculations and demand a corresponding increase in the estimate of the interstellar CH+ abundance.
