An unsuccessful attempt to detect H2O(+) toward four early-type stars is reported. The attempt involved a search for the H2O(+) spectral feature at wavelength 6199 A, which has been noted in Comet Kohoutek. Based on the observations toward the four stars, an upper space density value of 7 times 10 to the minus 10th power per cu cm is set for the H2O(+). Thus it is concluded that the presence of H2O(+) in cometary spectra does not imply an enhanced interstellar abundance.
