Taking advantage of the radial intermediaries and the regularization and linearization methods, the zonal earth-satellite theory is studied in the polar nodal canonical set of variables. The variable theta is eliminated in the first order of the Hamiltonian by applying Deprit's (1969) method. Then the elimination of the perigee by another canonical transformation is carried out. As a consequence, a new radial intermediary, which contains all the J(2n) (n greater than or equal to 1) harmonics, is given. A comparison with the radial intermediaries of Cid and Lahulla (1969), Deprit (1981) and Alfriend and Coffey (1984) is made. Finally, a regularizing transformation which makes it possible to linearize part of the radial intermediary is proposed, and an analytical study of this process is presented.
