We present a model for the flaring activity of Mrk 501 as this was observed by MAGIC in July 2005. During the session gamma-rays showed a soft-to-hard lag within a time interval of approximately four minutes. We model the emission using the one-zone SSC model and we show that it can satisfactorily be explained by electrons undergoing acceleration with parameters that fall well inside the range used in the past to model the activity of the object.
