The growth rate index of large scale structure in the universe takes distinctive values or functions for distinct gravity theories. This can be used in order to probe the origin of cosmic acceleration from ongoing and future astronomical surveys. I will present some recent results on the parameterization of the growth rate index. This includes some preliminary results on redshift dependencies and adding spatial curvature.
