Slit-spectroscopy of high spatial (0arcsec.7) and spectral (6 km s-1) resolution has been carried out of the nova shell of HR Del, 15 years after its outburst. The complex form of the nebular emission lines obtained in unwidened coudé spectra from various position angles of the entrance slit presents a highly organized structure. The observations are interpreted through a detailed three-dimensional model of an expanding prolate ellipsoidal shell. The outer components of the line profile are identified with polar caps, and the inner ones with an equatorial ring. The polar caps expand at a velocity of about 560 km s-1; the equatorial ring, at only 188 km s-1. A distance of 1.15 kpc is derived. The mass of the shell is estimated to be a few times 10-6 M_sun;.
