Globular Clusters: Galactic Motions, Globular Clusters: Orbital Elements

Scientific paper

The elements of the galactocentric orbit are determined for the globular cluster NGC 6712. An elongated orbit (e = 0.77) with a small perigalactic distance (Rp ≍ 1 kpc), not highly inclined to the galactic plane (i = 53°, 127°), is found. It is curious to note that a comparison with the case of NGC 362, another globular cluster similar to it with respect to the chemical composition, reveals a significant similarity in the orbital elements.
