A new method is proposed for evaluating the observational material obtained in supernova patrols; this makes it possible to obtain the mean frequency of supernovae of the two types separately. It is shown that the mean frequency of type II supernovae is twice that of type I supernovae, and that the mean frequency of supernovae in Sc galaxies is proportional to the luminosity of the parent galaxy.
