We have investigated the free precession of white dwarf stars and computed the increase of the free precession period due to elastic properties of the star matter. For our white dwarf models the ratio between Chandler and Euler period turned out to lie between 8 and 21, depending upon central density of the white dwarf (4.9 x 10 exp 5 g/cu cm to 1.15 x 10 exp 9 g/cu cm).
