The nonstationary equations of gas dynamics are solved numerically to analyze radial adiabatic oscillations of the sun that result from local perturbations of the thermodynamic parameters in the energy-generating core region of the sun. Calculations are performed for a polytropic sphere and a standard solar model. Results show that a spherical wave produced by the perturbation will travel from the center to the surface and back, while undergoing successive reflections from the lower boundary of the atmosphere and from the center of the sun. Calculated oscillations in the radiation flux and the oscillation power spectrum are compared with observed solar pulsations.
