We have analysed the distribution of all the available asteroid rotational periods with a reliability code >=2 (516 asteroids). We analyzed separately the rotational frequency distributions of the asteroids with D>50km and D<=50km. For the larger asteroids we also analyzed the same distributions for the C, P, D, S and M taxonomic classes. We fitted the D>50km rotational frequency distribution with a single Maxwellian distribution but for the small asteroid we found a good fit with a linear combination of three distribution functions (Maxwellians), and we interpreted the obtained results in terms of evolution of the asteroid population.
