It is shown that there is no energy absorption associated with the advance of a convective zone into a region containing material of a different mean molecular weight. Stellar evolution codes used in computations of dredge-up during helium shell flashes should take this fact into account. A scheme for the treatment of mixing and gravitational-internal energy production in a stellar evolution code is suggested.
