From a survey of proposed coronal heating mechanisms, it is concluded that these processes not only provide a certain heating flux but also, through a damping length L, determine the mode of dissipation of this flux. Both for simplified and more elaborate models it is found that L determines both the magnitude and the position of the coronal temperature maximum. Such detailed determination of the corona model by the heating mechanism appears to contradict the concept of a minimum-flux corona.
