The Orion-population stars listed in the Herbig-Rao catalogue show a strong correlation between Parenago light-curve classification and emission-line intensities in a sense different from that expected from the behaviour of individual stars. In addition, the range in brightness variability of these stars appears to be independent of emission-line strength and lightcurve classification.
