The anomalies observed in the time- and altitude-dependent UV photometric measurements on Aries A-8 (Anderson et al. 1979) are considered. A time-dependent brightness variation appears to be associated with experiment altitude rather than celestial background for times greater than 250 seconds, corresponding to altitudes greater than 310 km on ascent. For earlier times, the photometer (sensitive to about 1630-1800 A) indicated a larger intensity that the constant spectrometer measurements in the 1200-1680 A range. Strong evidence suggests that the later time phenomena are due to exhaust from the burning of residual fuel, butyl rubber liner, and insulation material in the Aries motor which could create a background source of interference from the ultraviolet to the infrared.
