The analytical methods used in determining meteor mass-distribution indices (s) from radar observations are investigated. Two equations which can be used to correct the observed duration of the overdense echo for the electron-attachment effect proposed by Bibarsov (1972) are derived; the significant effect of nonequal antenna collection areas on the computed value of s is demonstrated; and a technique based on the theoretical analysis of Pecina (1982) is developed in which flux data are used to define the distribution of duration data in determining s is illustrated using data for Quarantid showers, and the numerical results are presented in tables and graphs.
