Absolute magnitudes of active nuclei of some Seyfert galaxies are determined from photoelectric photometry. There exists a well-defined dependence between the luminosity (optical or bolometric) of the nucleus and the total luminosity of the parent galaxy. This is apparently not a result of observational selection only; it rather reflects a real interdependence between the nuclear activity and the properties of the galaxy as a whole. There possibly exists a sharp jump of nonstellar nuclear luminosity between normal and Seyfert galaxies.
