An analytical solution is found in terms of elliptic integrals to the problem connected with the isothermal collapse of a gaseous sphere. With this solution, the time dependence of spatial density distribution is promptly obtained for each point inside the sphere itself. An application is given for interstellar clouds. It is shown that after the starting time, any further development in initial density gradient causes the central zone to become optically thick. Attention is confined to an analytical solution during the isothermal phase.
