The Large Area Telescope (LAT) on the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope finds a significant break in the published spectrum of the gamma-ray quasar 3C 454.3 at about 3 GeV, with a power-law photon number index of 2.27+-0.03 below the break and 3.5+-0.3 above the break. This large spectral index break excludes simple radiative cooling models. We demonstrate that, given the multi-wavelength spectral energy distribution of the source, the LAT spectrum cannot be described by Compton scattering of a single soft photon source. The observed spectral behavior could be caused by Compton scattering of a combination of two or more target radiation fields, for example, from a combination of accretion disk and scattered broad-line region radiation.
