The behavior of the radius of the photospheres of 14 type I and six type II supernovas is investigated. It is shown that near the light maximum the radius of the photosphere increases linearly with a velocity of about 7000 km/sec for type I and 4500 km/sec for type II. The characteristic size of the photosphere and the times at which the expansion of the shells commences are determined; differences between individual supernovas are considered. The various methods for determining the temperature, the connection between the variations in the spectrum and the behavior of the photosphere, and temperature determinations are discussed.
