Results of Moessbauer spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and neutron diffraction measurements on thin taenite lamellae of some representative iron meteorites are reviewed. The typical cloudy zone in meteoritical taenite is shown to be a consequence of the formation of a FeNi superstructure in a diffusion controlled process at temperatures below approximately 320 C.
