Estimates given in this paper do not corroborate the existence of connection between melting of the Greenland glaciers and the secular motion of the earth's pole. A hypothesis is proposed that the state of Greenland's glacial cover influences the mean latitudes of observatories in North America only, and leads to an instability of the astronomical system of polar coordinates.
