The definition and interpretation of the spherical harmonic power spectrum of a set of positions on the sphere is reviewed, and the technique is then applied to samples of optical and radio bright quasars. The optical sample is shown to be affected by galactic obscuration, and, in addition, an inhomogeneity is found on the scale of the field centers. This is attributed to variations in sensitivity from field to field, as indicated by variations in the limiting magnitudes of the fields. The radio bright sample is found to be random.
