In this paper we find connections between the sums of principal minors of a
square matrix and relate them with matrix coefficients of characteristic
polynomial. Obtained results are applied to total reduction for linear systems
of operator equations, to Cauchy problem for systems of differential equations
and to the question of differential transcendency.
