We derive analytic formulae expressing the mean number of scatterings for escaping and thermalized photons and the probabilities of eventual escape and eventual thermalization, in terms of the direct escape probability of line photons. Specializations of these formulae give well known relations. A comparison with Finn's numerical results show good agreement.
