Attention is given to the large number of unidentified solar emission lines and the various ingenious ideas that have been proposed from time to time to resolve the problem. An attempt is made to tackle the problem on the basis of one fundamental system consisting of an electron and a proton, the Coulomb potential between which is regulated by temperature. Use is made of an equation which has recently been given for the description of such a system.
