In order to investigate whether a magnetic field line reconnection process can be operative in cosmic jets for in situ reenergization of synchrotron radiating electrons, the Gold-Parker mechanism of coronal heating (originally devised for the Sun) is considered under the conditions of extragalactic jets. The power dissipated by this process, for the parameter values of two of the most powerful radio galaxies (M 87 and Cen A), amounts to 10 to the 39th to 40th power erg/s. This fits the energetic requirements of the electrons for the radio part of the synchrotron spectrum, but is possibly not enough for its optical and X-ray branch.
