A model of the auroral electrojet is proposed in which the mechanism of the electrojet is a magnetospheric current whose regions of inflow and outflow are located in the morning and evening sectors. The model takes account of magnetic variations at points on the geomagnetic meridian, and calculated results are compared with magnetometer data from two stations in western Siberia. The electrojet is assumed to be 100 km above the ground, and the vertical magnetospheric currents are assumed to be infinitely rising. It is shown that for the description of bay-like magnetic disturbances, it is necessary to consider two electrojets, a western one with center at 3 hours LT and an eastern one with center at 17 hours LT. The eastern electrojet appears to be at higher latitudes than the western one.
