Fourier decompositions are performed for the light curves of six RRab and 3 RRc field stars. These are added to previous work to form a sample of 61 RRab and 12 RRc pulsators. The authors use this sample to establish a very regular decrease in the Fourier parameter φ21 with decreasing metal content among field RRab stars with period P < 0d.575. They show that this relation can be tentatively explained as an opacity effect, using simple one-zone models. No trend of φ21 with metallicity is found for the RRc field stars.
