An attempt is made to introduce dynamical coupling between convection and pulsation in Unno's (1967) theory of time dependent convection in the stellar pulsation problem using a variational method applied to turbulent viscosity dissipation. It is shown that the red limit of the cepheid instability strip can be obtained in such a way, but that the results are very sensitive to the model of turbulent viscosity considered.
