The possible consequences of asymmetry in dark galactic halos for galaxy formation have been investigated, with the protogalactic collapse modelled as a pressureless test-particle collapse of gas rotating initially as a solid body in a rigid uniform-density triaxial halo. If the protogalaxy collapses as a thin sheet which rotates about an axis in its plane, it is shown to lose a significant amount of its initial angular momentum, L(0), to the dark halo. The greatest angular momentum loss occurs for L(0) parallel to the middle axis of the halo and for collapse within more oblate halos. It is suggested that elliptical galaxies may form when a protogalaxy collapsing within an asymmetric halo loses most of its L(0) to the halo.
