The authors have examined the claim that the cosmic ray asymmetrical latitudinal gradient is related to the observed north-south asymmetry in solar activity. After 1973, they find no evidence for the existence of a stable, asymmetrical, latitudinal gradient related to the asymmetry of solar activity. Their primary focus is on the 1980 - 1987 period. Their results indicate that a southward gradient existed in 1984, and a northward gradient in 1987, but no persistent asymmetrical gradient is present at other times for the 1980 - 1987 period. To make sure that their conclusion does not result from differences in the selection criteria and the associated statistics, the authors have analyzed the Deep River neutron monitor data for a longer period of time (1965 - 1987).
