The existence of an oscillation with a period of 20 to 22 yr in irregularities of earth's rotation in the period from 1820 to 1977 is confirmed. The oscillation phase is determined from the observed tight correlation of yearly mean deviations in earth's rotational angular velocity as well as the number of polar faculae on the sun for the period from 1928 to 1958. It is suggested that oscillations in earth's rotational angular velocity are related to changes in the solar high-latitude magnetic field extending into interplanetary space.
