A mechanism for mesospheric sodium nightglow emission owing to the interaction of the surrounding medium with gaseous compounds whose origin is connected with human activity is studied. It is shown that at altitudes of 80 - 100 km the Na emission intensity and source function could be two to three orders of magnitude greater than the average values of the analogous quantities in the undisturbed atmosphere.
