Using observations of the 1667 MHz hydroxyl (OH) transition in OH megamasers, we aim to detect Zeeman splitting in starburst galaxies. In order to pursue this goal in the southern hemisphere, it will first be necessary to assess the full-Stokes performance of the Parkes telescope. We shall: derive the Mueller matrix for the system by observing a linearly polarized continuum source; determine the sense of circular polarization by observing Galactic OH masers; observe IC 2545, for which Zeeman splitting has been previously detected, both to confirm this result and assess the Stokes V response of Parkes; and observe IRAS F12032+1707 to complete our Zeeman census of the three known OH gigamasers.
