Significant evidence was detected in UT1-data from VLBI observations of the short period UT1 variations caused by diurnal and semidiurnal ocean tides. A total of 48 IRIS-A experiments coverning about one year were used in a comparison with the newly computed theoretical UT1-variations induced by tidal water elevations and currents. Using correlation and least squares fitting techniques, the signals with a predicted amplitude of 0.1 ms could be detected at a level of 4-sigma. In addition, a significant out-of-phase part of an effective fortnightly tide Mf was found to be in agreement with theory.
