Space-based direct exoplanetary high contrast imaging using an external occulter requires precise formation-keeping of a constellation consisting of the space telescope and the occulting spacecraft. Here we are interested in the position control of a single occulter aligned with the telescope and target star and, in particular, focus on the fine sensing stage which involves stationkeeping maneuvering. We present simulation results for the position-control algorithm applied to the THEIA mission, which consists of a 4-m telescope in a ballistic halo orbit about the L2 point and a 40-m diameter occulter that operates at two distances. Relative sensing is achieved using a pupil-plane detector for leakage outside of the science-passband, and a Kalman filter to estimate the states. We simulate results with added deep-space disturbances.
