Earth magnetic field was observed simultaneously at geostationary orbit by the GEOS 2 satellite and at the magnetically conjugated high latitude ionosphere by sounding rockets, balloons and ground based observatories. Results show that continuous observations using ground based facilities are best suited for quantitative determinations. The STARE radar facility is particularly successful. The value of measurements in conjunction with the EISCAT facility is underlined.
