The beamed radio emission of the subauroral nonthermal continuum at 1486 kHz was observed by Prognoz-10 in the Northern Hemisphere at great distances outside the terrestrial magnetosphere. The radiation scattered inside the midlatitudinal ionospheric trough forms a comparatively wide beam (5-10 deg and more along lambda sub m), which propagates along the width of the trough (about 60 deg). More intense narrow beams (0.4-3 deg along lambda sub m) propagate along the temporally unstable geomagnetic width, which varies from 28 to 55 deg depending on the level of geomagnetic activity.
