UBVRI' photometry of the flare star EV Lac was carried out during July and August 1980 in order to search for evidence of flare star activity on an intermediate time scale. To separate out the variability due to the rotation of EV Lac, the nightly mean brightness estimates were fitted with Pettersen's (1980) 4.378 d period. UBVR light curves of a small-amplitude, slow flare observed on August 27 are shown along with the measured color indices. On three nights the U brightness of EV Lac experienced aperiodic variations of low amplitude on a time scale of about one hour with an amplitude of roughly 0.2-0.3 m. No definite variability could be seen on the remaining nights. With regard to their time and color characteristics, the detected U-band brightness fluctuations cannot be considered flares.
