The photometric as well as low-dispersion and high-dispersion spectroscopic data of the Large Magellanic Cloud star R 110 is analyzed. The photometric data indicate that the energy distribution of R 110 is different from than one of a normal supergiant. Stellar parameters are discussed, and the continuum energy distribution is examined and compared with that one of R 127 and a theoretical model. It is pointed out that the comparatively low mass indicates that R 110 is in its postred supergiant evolutionary phase, and that the star shows no evidence of an enhanced mass-loss rate during its visual brightening. Since the amplitude of the visual brightness variations is comparatively small, it is suggested that the bolometric correction of the star did not change very much, which is consistent with all observations.
