The Dynamic Explorer (DE) project at the Radio Research Laboratory has been initiated in 1985 for the purpose of the telemetry reception, at the Kashima Radio Research Laboratory station, Japan, and the analysis of ionospheric and magnetospheric DE-1 data. In this paper the DE-1 satellite is briefly described along with the purpose of magnetospheric observations and the details of the DE-1 project in the RRL. Consideration is also given to the relationship of the DE RRL project to the NASA DE project.
