Using a correlation spectrometer, narrow-band spectra integrated over short time intervals have been measured at 1420 MHz for four pulsars. The observed large scatter of decorrelation widths is explained in terms of a simple theory based on a ray approximation. We conclude that the statistical properties of this scatter are not due to experimental errors, but depend on the number of interfering beams reaching the observer as well as on the pulsar dispersion measure.
