Unresolved range spread has been studied using ionosonde measuring angle of arrival and Doppler shift during swept frequency ionogram scans. One night, showing spread F which developed after a gravity wave raised the height of the F layer, is examined in detail. The angle of arrival and Doppler data indicate that two scale sizes of irregularity are present, the larger determining the Doppler properties and the smaller producing the unresolved spread F. The horizontal irregularity structure is two dimensional and many of the observed features were modeled using a mirror reflector distorted by waves.
