The authors describe a ground-based experiment carried out in Terra Nova Bay, Antarctica, in order to detect anisotropies in cosmic background radiation at an angular scale of 1°.3. They used a 1 m diameter flux collector and an 3He-cooled bolometric detector sensitive to radiation with wavelength between 1.86 and 2.34 mm. Observations were carried out during the Antarctic summer and are limited by atmospheric emission fluctuations. The authors derive an upper limit for CBR anisotropies ΔT/T(2.75 K) < 2.5×10-4 at the 95% confidence level at 1°.3 of angular scale.
