Photometric observations of 37 stars through the Johnson B filter in the open cluster NGC 3293 are presented. On the average, each star was monitored for 19 hr over 3.3 nights. Nine of these stars, and possibly a tenth, are β Cephei variables; a further four are variables of other types. The implications of these observations on the evolutionary status and excitation mechanism of β Cephei stars are discussed.
