The basic concepts of mm and sub-mm astronomy are reviewed, and examples of observations in the mm and sub-mm ranges are discussed. The molecular clouds OMC 1 and OMC 2 in the Orion OB Association are shown, in which massive O- and B-stars have formed, heating gas and dust to 70-80 K. OB stars in varying stages are discerned. Observations providing data on the origin of low-mass stars of low luminosity are discussed.
