Electron precipitation related to a magnetospheric substorm triggered by a sudden commencement (SSC) is summarized. Electron precipitation started well before substorm onset. No relationship between this very weak precipitation and the electron distribution at geosynchronous orbit is found. At the onset of the expansion phase of the substorm an electron precipitation arc developed, extending from Scandinavia (close to geomagnetic midnight) towards Greenland (near dusk). The poleward border of the arc expanded systematically polewards. An auroral fading at the onset of a PiB event is observed. A plasma injection front is recognized at GEOS-2 just after the strongest precipitation bursts. The magnetosphere was strongly compressed during the substorm. Time features of geosynchronous orbit energetic electron flux are similar to those found in the flux of precipitating electrons moving from L = 6.5 to at least L = 10.5 during the expansion phase of the substorm, and equatorwards to L = 5 during recovery.
